Project Intan

Project Intan 2017 marks 10 years of Celebrating Peranakan culture with the Community!

Project Intan is a celebration of music, food and all things Peranakan, by The Intan, a private home museum for Straits Chinese culture.  Blessed with continued success after winning the inaugural Museum Roundtable Award in 2011, Project Intan is also an expression of gratitude by its Founder Alvin Yapp and the museum’s volunteers.

For 10 years, Project Intan has helped raise awareness, funds and donations in kind for a nominated charity. Previous charity partners included the ARC Children’s Centre, Assisi Hospice and Singapore Children’s Society. This year, we are proud to be supporting Beyond Social Services

About the Intan

Celebrating all things Peranakan, The Intan is Singapore’s most hidden “Best Overall Experience”  For those who enjoy taking moments to smell the roses, The Intan, meaning rose-cut diamond in Baba Malay, is a private home museum of Straits Chinese Culture.  With a deep love for his roots, Baba Alvin Yapp has devoted his home to capture how modest craftsmen such as potters, cobblers, tailors, carpenters, cooks and jewellers became artists by simply taking pride in their identity.  Peranakan design draws inspiration from diverse cultures and integrates elements of beauty into a unique way of living and looking at the world.

The Intan Signature Tea Experience was awarded the Best Tour Experience at the Singapore Tourism Awards 2016

Project Intan received the President’s Award for Volunteerism and/or Philanthropy (Kampong Spirit) 2016.

About Beyond

Beyond Social Services
is a charity dedicated to helping children and youths from less priviledged backgrounds break away from the poverty cycle. We provide guidance, care and resources that enable families and communities to keep their young people in school and out of trouble

We help nurture a positive environment where children and youths feel a sense of belonging so they don’t feel the need to turn to negative influences. Like creating a culture of learning through educational and development programmes and linking their caregivers to job and training opportunities. So far we’ve reached out to over10,000 rental units in government rental blocks in Bukit Ho Swee, Lengkok Bahru, Henderson, Whampoa, Ang Mo Kio, Lavender, Stirling, Jalan Bukit Merah and Ghim Moh.

Project Intan is proud to nominate Beyond as its charity partner this year. We are pleased that some of their children will be in the concert in September. Our target is $500,000. We seek donations for programmes as well as resources described below. All donations, big or small are welcome, and when you give, you help build a more inclusive and cohesive community for all.
